Innovation in Adipocyte Production

Let's take the example of Joan: she is a 50 kg woman in her mid 40s with slightly below average BMI.

Minimizing donor tissue requirements

Typically SVF stem cell treatments require a liposuction at least ~0.1 to 1.0 kilograms of tissue in order to take those cells.

While a liposuction may be convenient to some, for many, the invasive nature of "going under" anesthesia and the visible tissue scarring / long healing times left behind are inconvenient for an active and busy lifestyle.

For Joan, she does not want to lose a day to "going under" and a few weeks healing from an invasive surgery. Often times, for someone with slightly below average BMI, the risks and complications of liposuction are higher since there is simply less fat to take out of the body.

The BaconBio bioprocess would allow clinics to start with a much smaller one gram sample, which means local anesthesia can be used and there is no need for "going under". The risk of complications related to taking out too much fat also goes down significantly.

Simplifying the culture / post-extraction bioprocessing

BaconBio partners with our affiliate organization PancakeBio to provide optimized single-use plasticware / cell culture prototypes.

Having invested time and effort in the research and development of both SVF and BaconBio techniques, we are able to bring down the skill level required for using these prototypes and executing these protocols from graduate-level academic researchers to high school interns.

By partnering with PancakeBio for repeatable and consistent single-use plasticware, BaconBio expects continued improvement and repeatability to provide a more consistent product at clinics.

Maximizing the density of viable stem cells

Typically SVF cells require post-extraction steps such as tissue digestion and centrifugation to separate the mature cells from the stem cells.

This resulting slurry of digested cells may be reintroduced back into the patient without much consideration to the actual density of the stem cells. The SVF stem cells will represent a small fraction (<10%) of the overall cells in this slurry.

For Joan, the amount of stem cells is proportional to have much fat tissue she was able to provide from the liposuction process.

BaconBio takes an innovative approach by using the mature adipocyte cells (the more common cell type) and converting them to dedifferentiated fat cells (DFAT). These DFAT cells can be cultured and proliferate into a biomass larger than the starting fat tissue.

For Joan, the amount of stem cells can be 10-100x to the fat tissue she was able to provide.

This technique compounds exponentially when incorporating the BaconBio cycling, which switches the cell state between mature and stem cell in order to hack the cell growth mechanism.

BaconBio discovered these scientific properties through years of research and development and patented this DFAT workflow. Universities today are actively intrigued by these discoveries, and in collaboration with BaconBio, are able to replicate / validate the findings with near-term publications in sight.
